From the age of 9, KUNIAKI began to learn the basics of the tsugaru shamisen from his father. In high school and university, he moved away from the tsugaru shamisen and became active in a rock band. In 2000, he began work as a company enployee and began performing again with the tsugaru shamisen. Forming KUNI-KEN with his younger brother KENJI in 2001, he became leader of the band, and eventually resigned from his office job in March, 2003. In 2005, he was invited to speak to junior high school students as a guest teacher and gave a lecture about his life and his music .He composes KUNI-KEN's original music, plays the tsugaru shamisen, and performs vocals on the band's latest album "KUNI-KEN".

At 7, KENJI began to study the art of the shamisen. In senior high school and university, he travelled to many tsugaru-shamisen concerts with his father. He formed KUNI-KEN with his older brother KUNIAKI in 2001. In 2002, he gave numerous performances in Italy.He composes KUNI-KEN's original music, plays the tsugaru shamisen, and performs vocals on the band’s latest album "KUNI-KEN".
